Is the Holy Spirit a real person whose work it is to save and sanctify us or is he a power which we are to use for our own benefit? If we think of the Holy Spirit as a mysterious power, our thoughts will be, “How can I get more of the Holy Spirit?” If we think of the Holy Spirit as a person, we will ask, “How can the Holy Spirit have more of me?” The first thought is nonbiblical, pagan. The second is New Testament Christianity.
